Lesson 1 of 30
Welcome to Studio Mochi
Today at the studio
It is your first morning at Studio Mochi, a small anime studio with big dreams and a very old coffee machine. Nagi, the director, hands you a laptop. Taped to it is a note from Kou, the previous data intern, now happily moved to animation: "the database is fine. mostly. good luck!" Byte, the office cat, is already asleep on your keyboard.
The idea
A database is a set of tables, and every table is like a spreadsheet: columns across the top, one row per thing. To read a table you ask a question with SELECT.
SELECT names the column you want, and FROM names the table it lives in. The result is a new table with just that column. Nothing in the studio's database changes when you read it, so you cannot break anything today.
Example
SELECT species FROM characters
